Laura Robinson's food service experience began in the mid-80s when she took a job in the dietary department at the PCOM hospital. Ten years later, she found herself applying for and then accepting a Food Manager's position with the School District of Philadelphia. A requirement for that position was to become and remain certified as a ServSafe Food Service Manager. That meant studying, taking, and passing the certification exam, and then repeating the process every five years for recertification. Laura found an instructor offering a one-day training course and exam, and she sat for the training, took the exam, and passed it, and just like that, she became certified. Laura returned to the same ServSafe Instructor each time she needed to recertify, and one day that Instructor told her that she should take the instructor's exam and become an Instructor herself, since she knew the material. She went on to say to her that she could then instruct classes herself. So instead of taking the ServSafe Manager's certification that day, Laura took the instructor's certification exam, passed it, and instantly became an instructor, and the rest is history.
